Geraint Evans- BA Hons (oxon), ACA
Geraint joined the F E Metcalfe & Co in 2008, becoming a Director in April 2009 and the Managing Director from April 2012.
Geraint qualified as a chartered accountant in 1998 with PricewaterhouseCoopers. During ten years working in the London Practice of the PwC audit and business advisory services department Geraint worked with a wide range of clients including start-up operations, owner-managed businesses and listed plc’s.
Geraint moved to North Yorkshire in 2004 and joined the finance department of Turner and Townsend LLP as the International Finance Director. Geraint was responsible for managing finance departments in eight countries, advising on the purchase of new businesses, integrating newly acquired businesses, managing the corporate tax structure of the international business and co-ordinating income tax advice to the 35 equity partners of the LLP. Geraint gained valuable experience understanding the requirements that businesses have of their accountants and tax advisors. Geraint has developed a wide ranging network of other professional advisors, financial advisors and providers of finance that can be introduced to help support his clients.
Since 2008 Geraint has used his breadth of audit experience to expand the audit work of the business, which has added to the audit experience and knowledge of our staff. Geraint has become closely involved in supporting the growth of a number of businesses and advising clients how to navigate safely through the difficult economic conditions of recent years.
Geraint works with his clients to ensure that their businesses are structured in the most tax efficient way, which has resulted in a number of clients changing their business structures and incorporating their businesses. Geraint enjoys providing hands on support to start up businesses and existing businesses as they restructure. Geraint has a wide range of experience of income tax, corporation tax, inheritance tax and capital gains tax and the interaction between these taxes, believing that clients appreciate rounded advice on all aspects of tax that impact their business and personal finances.
A Sports enthusiast Geraint also enjoys reading historical books, walking, gardening and celebrating the occasional Welsh rugby win.
Fred Metcalfe FCCA
Fred joined his father in the practice where he trained as an articled clerk, before qualifying in 1972. He took over the practice in 1985, before handing over to Geraint in 2012. Fred now works two days a week (each morning Monday to Thursday) but still maintains a very active involvement in the business.
Fred has a wealth of experience and has established an enviable reputation in farm accounts and taxation, estate planning and trust accounts besides the usual business and personal taxation matters.
Fred is well known in the community for his keen interest and active involvement in the local rugby club.
Jessica Crabtree BSc FCA
A graduate of Nottingham University, Jessica trained with Peats (now KPMG), where she gained invaluable experience on audit, accounts and taxation of a wide range of owner managed Limited Companies.
Jessica qualified as a chartered accountant in 1986.
Originally from a farming background, Jessica chose to move to rural practices to broaden her experience on small businesses and personal taxation. Jessica joined F E Metcalfe & Co in 1994 and became a Director in 1995.
Jessica has developed a strong reputation for the quality of her accounting and tax advice across a diverse portfolio of clients. Jessica has become an invaluable support to many of her clients having acquired an in depth understanding of their business over a long period.
Paula joined F E Metcalfe & Co in 1984 and has gained a wealth of practical accounting experience through working closely with Fred Metcalfe and advising clients over the last 30 years. Paula was appointed a director of F E Metcalfe & Co in 2012.
Paula advises a varied and wide range of owner managed businesses including sole traders, partnerships and corporate clients on all areas of taxation, VAT, payroll and business planning. Paula has supported these clients with continuity of service and provides proactive advice throughout the year
Paula has particular experience with agricultural clients and understanding their tax issues. In recent years Paula has advised a number of agricultural clients on the benefits of trading as a limited company and has supported them through the process of incorporating the farm business.
As a result of years of practical experience of accounts preparation and assisting clients with developing their book keeping systems Paula has developed an in depth understanding of a range of accounts software packages and can advise clients on selecting the most appropriate accounts software package and how these can be tailored to meet the needs of the business.
Paula also has responsibility for the management of our high calibre and long serving staff along with the administration of the practice. Paula has set high expectations for the quality of accounts preparation and business taxation work in the practice and ensures that these standards are maintained on a day to day basis.
Monica Doherty - BA Hons FCA
Having graduated from the University of Ulster with a BA in Accounting, Monica qualified as a chartered accountant in Liverpool in 2001.
Moving to North Yorkshire, Monica worked for Garbutt and Elliott LLP in York for eight years specialising in advising professional practice clients, solicitors in particular, and advising a range of owner managed businesses.
Monica joined F E Metcalfe & Co in September 2011 and was appointed a director in 2014.
Monica looks after a varied portfolio of clients which includes both longstanding and new clients of F E Metcalfe & Co. Monica takes a hands on approach to supporting her clients to develop their business and enjoys looking after a number of early stage and start up businesses. Monica has gained the experience to provide advice and support to her clients across a wide spectrum of business and tax issues, covering both business and personal tax issues. Monica is currently expanding her portfolio and would welcome the opportunity to meet potential new clients.
